About Us

Rooted in Tradition

Long before street signs in Weakley County read "Martin," local memory holds that this stretch of West Tennessee went by another name: Green Briar Glade — a name drawn straight from the tangled thicket that once covered the ground. It's the kind of name that comes from paying attention to a place, not from a map or a marketing plan. When the railroad arrived and the town was formally platted and renamed for the Martin family, the old name faded from road signs, but it never quite left the land.

Why We Borrowed the Name

We opened our doors on Neal Street wanting to build something that felt like it had always belonged here — unhurried, welcoming, and a little bit wild around the edges, the way the briar itself once was. Naming the shop Green Briar is our way of tipping our hat to that older layer of local history, and to everyone who's called this ground home before us, whatever it was called at the time.

We're not historians, and we won't pretend to have the full story of Green Briar Glade and Martin figured out — that history belongs to the town, its longtime families, and institutions like the University of Tennessee at Martin far more than it belongs to a coffee shop. But we love a good story with our coffee, and this one felt worth keeping alive, one cup at a time.

What We're Building

Green Briar Coffee Co. is a small-batch coffee shop and community gathering spot, opening in 2026 at 129 B Neal Street in Martin. Our patio, our order window, and our counter are built for the same things that have always brought this town together: good conversation, strong coffee, and time spent with neighbors.

Whether you're a lifelong Martin local, a Skyhawk on your way to class, or just passing through West Tennessee, pull up a chair. We saved you a seat at the table this community has been setting for a long time.
